Gion Matsuri is one of Japan's most famous traditional festivals and is held throughout July in Kyoto. The festival originated in 869 as a religious ceremony held to pray for protection from epidemics and other disasters.

The highlight of the festival is the Yamahoko Junko, a procession of large, elaborately decorated floats that parade through the streets of central Kyoto. These floats are often referred to as “moving museums” because they display exquisite textiles, carvings, and other examples of traditional craftsmanship.

天神祭は、大阪天満宮の祭礼であり、学問の神として知られる菅原道真公を祀る祭りです。

1,000年以上の歴史を持つ天神祭は、毎年7月に開催され、日本を代表する祭礼の一つとして知られています。祭りでは陸上での行列や伝統芸能の奉納が行われるほか、大川を舞台とした船渡御が行われます。

祭りの終盤には、多くの船が提灯の明かりに照らされながら川を進み、盛大な花火が夜空を彩ります。これは大阪の夏を代表する風物詩の一つとなっています。

Tenjin Matsuri is the principal festival of Osaka Tenmangu Shrine and is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, who is revered as the god of learning.

With a history of more than 1,000 years, the festival is held annually in July and is known as one of Japan's three great festivals. The festivities include processions through the city, performances of traditional performing arts, and a river procession known as Funatogyo on the Okawa River.

The festival reaches its climax as many illuminated boats sail along the river, followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the night sky, making it one of the most iconic scenes of summer in Osaka.

■ 神田祭（東京都）/ Kanda Matsuri (Tokyo)

神田祭は、東京都千代田区の神田明神で行われる祭礼であり、東京を代表する祭りの一つです。その歴史は江戸時代までさかのぼり、かつては徳川幕府の庇護を受けながら発展しました。

Kanda Matsuri is the festival of Kanda Myojin Shrine and one of Tokyo's most important traditional festivals. Its history dates back to the Edo period (1603–1868), and it flourished under the patronage of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Held in mid-May of odd-numbered years, Kanda Matsuri features processions of portable shrines and participants dressed in traditional attire. The festival route passes through areas that once formed the political and commercial center of Edo, the city that later became modern Tokyo.
